Who doesn't love Falstaff? Tipsy, scheming, amorous, a braggart, a clown, a scoundrel, fumbling and incompetent, ever-optimistic, a true force of nature, Falstaff was originally modelled on Sir John Oldcastle but he is in some ways a self-mocking portrait of Shakespeare himself - 'fall staff' = 'shake spear'. By a strange twist of fate, meeting at the Boar's Head in Eastcheap, Falstaff becomes a drinking mate of the Prince of Wales, young Hal - the future Henry V. The scene shows Falstaff pretending to be the King while Hal pretends to be his servant.
Also available in a set of six, each showing a scene from one of the plays in our Shakespeare collection: Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night and Henry IV Part One.
Hand-crafted in London by artist Teresa Robertson and writer Leo Schulz.
